Egyptian themed Artist in residence program at
Garrett Heights Elementary school. MD 2008

  • 5th grade students learned about ancient Egyptian Culture and created a school display featuring a few small scaled monuments and several art replications.
  • Students received an introduction to translating heiroglyphs and created their own cartouches.
  • Artist in residence was Dirk Joseph

Pyramids built from cardboard and painted with a mixture of acrylic paint and sand.

Sphynx built from cardoard and paper mache. Also painted with and textured paint.

Students translated their names into heiroglyphics and carved the glyphs into plaster blocks. The blocks were then used to print on paper and cast paper relief sculptures (below).
